HOW TO OVERCOME FEAR

ImageFear is our worst enemy, it is our handicap emotion and most of all having it is our biggest failure. Fear is what stops us human beings from exploring our dreams, looking into our future or better yet, getting into that relationship with that person. A wise man made for an acronym to stand for; False Evidence Appearing Real. Fear breeds from our thoughts which are manifestations of the brain. These manifestations are not real but scary imaginations that we fear might happen to us. Below are few steps that you can answer your question on how to overcome fear.

IDENTIFICATION: The first step is the identification of the object, situation or person that you fear.  What or who is it? Why do they or why does it cause you to fear? On a piece of paper, write down ten things that you fear about them or it and ensure that you have 15 reasons. If they surpass 15 reasons then you deserve to fear. However, believe me you, these reasons will not amount to 15 and please do not continue to force these reasons.

THE OTHER SIDE: In the first step we looked at the negative side of that situation. Search the entire world and your brain for the positive attributes of that person of a situation or object. If it is a serious relationship or marriage that you are afraid to think about its positive side like having children and having a soul mate. The positive side will give you reason to exclaim “it’s not that bad!” or “that’s not really scary” and that’s how to overcome fear.

MAKE YOUR FEARS HUMOROUS. This is another step in letting go of that fear. Making the situation or person or object that you are afraid of funny will allow you to ease out. If it is your boss that you are afraid of, imagine him dancing the Harlem shake, or if you are afraid of speaking in public imagine everyone else in the office naked. This will definitely help you lighten up the mood and lessening the tension around you.

SURRENDER: If the thing or that person that you fear is not that dangerous, try surrendering to it. This will let you put your imagination to a standstill and you experience the reality. So many people are afraid of swimming, but the 1st step of overcoming that fear is getting into that pool and getting yourself a swim coach then you will eventually realize that the water isn’t that bad and that’s how to overcome fear.

POSITIVITY: Every motivational speaker talks about positivity as the best advice on how to overcome fear. Because it is the positive thoughts that you fill your brain with that will overshadow the dark ones of fear. When you are in a situation where fear is crawling through your body, first BREATHE, only allow positive thoughts to say your children playing or your wedding day or anything that will deviate your mind from fear. Fear can cause you to embarrass yourself or do something that you will regret. Most people who are afraid of public speech end up tripping, stammering or even urinating on themselves and we definitely wouldn’t want that to happen.
